Injectables / Facial Fillers

Aging is a part of life, but wrinkles, lines, and creases don’t have to be. Injectable fillers are highly effective in treating areas such as the lips, smile lines, “marionette lines” (from the corners of your mouth to your chin) and acne scarring. They can also be used in augmenting cheek bones and filling in cheek hollows, jowls and tear troughs.

Everyone is doing injections these days, for that youthful look, and I have had them all! However, I have found that Dr. Prasad is an “Artist” and takes her time to give one that perfect look. I intend to continue with Dr. Prasad to stay as young as possible…. for as long as possible.

  • What Is Happening To The Look And Feel Of My Skin? It Wasn’t Always Like This!

As your skin ages, it gradually begins to lose collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. These individual components have their own place in giving you a youthful look. Collagen is the protein that gives major support for the skin, elastin gives firmness to the skin (thereby resisting wrinkles), and hyaluronic acid helps trap water to give volume and shape to skin. Since these changes occur gradually, consider having dermal fillers to help volumize the skin and soften wrinkles before resorting to a dramatic surgical facelift.

  • Why Do You Have So Many Types Of Fillers?

There are differences in the way each filler behaves, how they fill and their longevity. These differences are based on what the filler is composed of. There are hyaluronic acid based fillers (Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm Ultra and Plus), Ca Hydroxyapatite based fillers (Radiesse) and fillers which stimulate your own collagen (Sculptra, which is administered like a filler but is not technically classified as one). We do not offer collagen based fillers at Laser Esthetica (Evolence, Cosmoplast), due to the shorter efficacy of them.

All kinds of filler materials can help improve the youthful appearance and fullness of facial skin, but there is no one filler that is ideal for everyone or for every part of the face. It is important that the doctor is familiar with many different types of fillers for this reason. Different regions of your face, such as the lips, tolerate fillers differently so not all fillers can be injected into the lips. Sometimes, multiple fillers can be used in various places in the face to improve the entire facial aesthetic, in a procedure known as a “liquid facelift.” This procedure is rapidly gaining popularity and is starting to replace the standard surgical facelift, as a less expensive, easier, and less painful alternative way to achieve similar results.

  • What Should I Expect During And After The Procedure?

Most treatments can be administered in just a few minutes, and any discomfort can be eased with topical or injectable anesthetics. At Laser Esthetica, we use a thin needle to inject the dermal filler into the wrinkles, folds, or scars where treatment is desired. The injections are administered in intervals along the desired area until the right amount of correction is achieved. The treated area is then gently massaged to smooth the surface. Some minor discomfort is normal initially, but should be brief. Most patients can comfortably return to work or other daily activities immediately after treatment.

Results are immediate and enduring. However, lines that are particularly deep may require a second treatment within two to four weeks of the first treatment. Long term touch up treatments may be recommended after several months to maintain results.

  • How Long Do The Results Last?

Results can last from three months to three years, depending on the filler being used. Hyaluronic acid based fillers and Radiesse tend to last longer, with effects usually lasting from six months to one year. Sculptra, which is not technically a filler, lasts for much longer because it stimulates your natural collagen instead of plumping the area with the product itself.

The longevity of your results also depends on the location of the treatment. For example, injections in the lips tend to have a shorter lifespan (3-6 months) than elsewhere in the face.

  • What Are The Possible Side Effects?

Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and extremely safe. If and when complications arise, it is usually due to the provider placing the product in an area it was not meant for, or using poor injection techniques. These instances can be avoided by choosing an experienced, qualified specialist.

Side effects are uncommon, but can include limited allergic reactions (hypersensitivity), reactivation of an existing herpes infection, localized bruising, redness or swelling at the injection site, and in very rare instances, vascular occlusion and ulceration. If hypersensitivity is a concern for you, choosing a hyaluronic acid based filler may be wise, since these can be broken down enzymatically in the event of a bad result or hypersensitivity reaction using an injection of Hyaluronidase.

  • Why Should I Choose Laser Esthetica For Dermal Filler Injection?

Dr. Prasad and her team at Laser Esthetica are well versed and very experienced in the uses and injection of many dermal fillers. You can be confident in the experience and technique that Laser Esthetica has to get you the safest and best results. And by having several different fillers in our office, you can be sure that we have the best possible options for you.
